Project Description
The T.P.S. – Touristic Platform Systems project aims to create an integrated and innovative system for visiting and enhancing cultural heritage and the events connected to it, with a privileged point of view focused on the cultural consumer. The goal is to offer visitors itineraries and routes to explore the cultural heritage of Campania and the national territory, integrating events, commercial activities, and tourist services.
Objectives
The main objective of the project, and therefore of the startup, is to develop new models of use through next-generation technologies, useful for producing content that makes cultural and environmental heritage more accessible and enhanced. In particular, modern ICT technologies can significantly improve the knowledge experience of future generations, and not only, making it more immediate and engaging. The systemic and multidisciplinary approach of T.P.S., which combines heterogeneous and previously conflicting skills, proposes a new \”SMART\” interaction model between the user and the cultural asset; making the public experience stimulating and engaging remains one of the key points around which T.P.S.’s work revolves.
Results
The project enabled the development of the following technological products.
TuristicVirtualTour
TuristicVirtualTour is an innovative product based on a mobile application that serves as a smart and advanced guide in open cultural spaces, such as archaeological parks, art cities, and historic centers. Its features include, in addition to the classic informational sections with standard multimedia content (audio guides, videos, texts), interactive maps, 360-degree photos and videos viewable with or without 3D viewers, 3D reconstructions explorable in Virtual Reality, and an entire section dedicated to Augmented Reality. This allows the tourist/visitor to identify a location or point of interest and view its related information simply by pointing the camera of their smartphone and/or tablet in a certain direction.
Virgi
The second innovative product developed is Virgi, a mobile application designed and intended exclusively for use in indoor environments on pre-configured tablets to be distributed inside museums and/or cultural exhibitions. Its purpose is to accompany the user during their visit and to display content related to the closest artwork (or group of artworks), such as photos, videos, audio, and textual descriptions. This feature is based on a system of Bluetooth Low Energy sensors, called Beacons, which will be installed near the targeted artworks. These sensors are non-invasive, small in size, and have a long internal battery life (over 2 years). The user only needs to select their preferred language and start the tour. The operator, before handing over the tablet to the visitor, must register their data on a supporting web terminal equipped with management software.
TouristicWebTour
An informative web platform for generating itineraries and enjoying cultural content. It offers the user, through a web interface, relevant points of interest related to a selected city. A desktop application stores the itineraries chosen by the user by selecting various points of interest made available according to the user’s profile. The itineraries can also be dynamically and exclusively created by the platform and suggested to the user as a possible alternative for their visit. The intelligent use, which dynamically exploits contextual information to allow a highly contextualized and personalized experience, enhances the satisfaction level of the user/visitor.
